This week on “The Bachelorette,” Gabby and Rachel had their highly anticipated fantasy sequel dates. Some have gone exactly as you might think, while others have taken an unexpected turn.
Erich and Gabby’s date night
The couple reflect on their date in their hometown as they lounge by a body of water in the middle of the jungle in Mexico. Erich says it was difficult to leave his father due to his current medical condition, but his family was “obsessed” with Gabby.
When given the opportunity to stay together in the fantasy suite, Gabby and Erich jump at the chance. Erich eventually tells Gabby that he’s in love with her and doesn’t want to leave without her by his side. Unfortunately, Erich is increasingly bothered that there are still two other guys Gabby could potentially end up with. Imagine being bothered by your girlfriend dating other men? Wait… I think he might be on to something here.
See you in Aven and Rachel’s fantasy suite
Rachel says she could see a life with Aven but needs to work through the tough questions. She asks him if he sees himself getting engaged in a few weeks. Much to Rachel’s delight, Aven says yes – he’s 100% ready. She then proceeds to tell him that she falls in love with him and that he is “the whole package”.
The couple spend the night together in the fantasy suite and are all smiles in the morning. Could Aven be the one for him?
Tino and Rachel’s date night
After Tino’s date in her hometown, Rachel really wants the day to go well. She tells Tino that she’s afraid to move forward with him because his family didn’t like him. She also asks if he would be able to move on with her without her family’s approval. He replies that it probably won’t be overnight (additional note: judging by their hometown date, I don’t think their approval will come by the end of this year) but that they will eventually join us.
Tino tells Rachel he’s in love with her and Rachel says she loves him too. The couple spend the night together in the fantasy suite and all worries about Tino’s family approval are forgotten (for now).
Johnny and Gabby’s date is cut short
The day starts well with Gabby and Johnny drinking champagne on a boat and discussing how quickly time has passed. Gabby says she hopes for a future with him, but those hopes are quickly dashed when she asks him what he thinks about an engagement at the end of their “journey”.
Johnny dances around the question, but ends up telling Gabby that he wouldn’t feel ready to propose in just a week. Although it’s difficult, the couple say goodbye because they want different things and are at different times in their lives.
Erich begins to unravel
After reeling from her breakup with Johnny, Gabby receives a note from Erich saying he needs to talk to him. He begins to rehash a lot of what they apparently talked about off-camera in the fantasy sequel, saying he feels like Gabby is cheating by going to the other date nights that week.
Although Erich repeats that he is in love with her and is simply afraid of losing her, Gabby feels that he is pushing her to make a decision.
Jason and Gabby’s not-so-magical “fantasy” date
Gabby and Jason’s date started off well with the couple playing a friendly game of tennis and talking about their hometown date. Although the day starts off well, Jason shares that he’s not ready to get engaged and feels like Gabby doesn’t really know who he completely is. She is very upset by this news because she had already told us that she was really falling in love with Jason.
The couple decide to talk things over – away from all the cameras – during their night out part of the evening. After having this difficult conversation, we find out that they have decided to end the relationship.
Zach and Rachel’s Fantasy Sequel Date
The last date night of the season is shaping up to be great with Zach and Rachel enjoying a light day of drinking and dancing. They decide to stay together as a couple in the fantasy suite, but that’s when things go wrong.
We find out that their overnight date was the furthest thing from a fantasy, leaving Zach feeling like maybe Rachel was putting on a forehead the whole time. He asks our host, Jesse Palmer, for advice.
Zach tells Jesse that he feels caught off guard and once the cameras are away, Rachel acts differently. He said she was very concerned about Zach’s age and wondered if he was really ready for an engagement. You can watch Zach’s conversation with Jesse in the video player above.
Gabby tells Erich how she really feels
Meanwhile, Gabby decides she needs to tell Erich how she really feels. She confesses her love to him and lets him know that he is the only man left. Erich is absolutely thrilled to hear this, and the couple share a heartwarming moment.
The Rose Ceremony
Finally we are at the rose ceremony, but this time it’s just Rachel and her remaining men: Tino, Aven and Zach. Before it can even begin, Zach pulls Rachel aside to talk.
Instead of seeing the fallout from this intense showdown, we’re taken back to an empty studio in Los Angeles with Jesse Palmer. It gives audiences the most ominous warning of events about to unfold, but we’ll have to wait until next week to see what happens.
This is truly set to be “The Bachelorette”‘s most dramatic season finale of all time. Tune in next week for the first episode of ABC’s two-night finale event!
