Azerbaijan F1 Grand Prix date: UK start time and live stream as FIA president clarifies criticism of Hamilton and Vettel for ‘imposing their beliefs’ while Verstappen has “unfinished business”

FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem has clarified his criticism of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel as the Formula 1 grid heads to Azerbaijan this weekend.

British icon Hamilton has been outspoken about driving in countries with human rights issues, while Vettel publicly called for the need for greater LGBT+ inclusion in motorsport this week.

Yet the duos’ campaign ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix has come under apparent criticism from FIA boss Ben Sulayem.

He said at the 247 Grand Prix: “Vettel rides a rainbow bike, Lewis is passionate about human rights and [Lando] Norris addresses mental health.

“Everyone has the right to think. For me, it’s about deciding whether we should impose our beliefs in something above sport all the time.

However, the new FIA chief appears to have since turned around, tweeting that sport can act as a “catalyst for progress in society”.

Azerbaijan Grand Prix: What was said?

Max Verstappen has only completed one Grand Prix in Baku before and has had three retirements to his name.

He said: “I am looking forward to returning to Baku, we have unfinished business there after last year.

“It’s a tricky track with large braking zones and tight clearance, finding the best set-up for the car will be difficult to ensure we get the right level of wing.

“It will also be interesting to see if we can improve our one-lap performance for qualifying as we are a bit short.”
