Australian track cyclist Alex Porter suffered a nasty crash inside the velodrome at the Olympics when his bike’s handlebars broke during the team pursuit.
The team got off to a great start as they looked to qualify for the next leg of the event.
But soon after they left, Porter’s handlebars snapped in his hands.
He rode head first over the top of his bike and hit the track at high speed.
Fortunately, he was behind his three teammates when the incident happened, so he did not affect any other riders.
The Australian team was able to stop in order to restart.
Porter was heard shouting at his trainer, “My fucking handlebars broke!
He suffered nasty cuts and bruises and a scrape on his face where he hit the trail.
Commentator Chris Boardman said: “The bike is shattered into pieces…
“It was a failure on the handlebars! It’s surprising. I don’t think I’ve seen this before.
“It’s a real surprise. It must have been such a shock and it will resonate with other riders using the same equipment. “
Former GB team star Chris Hoy added: “It’s incredibly rare, and it will have shaken the confidence of all the riders.”
Denmark dominated the team pursuit with an Olympic record, while Italy, New Zealand and Great Britain also qualified.
