Australia South Africa SCG Test 2023 Mark Taylor Player Ratings
Australia were superb throughout the series against South Africa and were unlucky not to get a result in Sydney that would have secured a 3-0 sweep.
There were strong individual performances by many players in the third test.
Here are my player ratings for the game, which was not short of controversy even after being cut short due to rain.

Usman Khawaja: 10/10
A huge innings of 195 not come out. As he did in Sydney last year, he judged the pace of the pitch very well and timed his runs very well. Prepare Australia for a big score in the first set and to dominate the match.
David Warner: 3/10
Only managed 10 runs in the first innings and didn’t have another chance in the middle. Great to see him bounce back in the previous test in Melbourne.
Marnus Labuschagne: 8/10
Played well on day one, helped put Australia in a good position and got a beauty from (Anrich) Nortje that knocked him down.
Smith overtakes Bradman with SCG ton
Steve Smith: 9/10
Good full match test. Well beaten for a hundred. Well caught too. Should have received more takes than he got.
Head of Travis: 8/10
Moved the game forward with the bat, as he has in all series. Another strong contribution in the middle order. Was also helpful with his part time offies. Will be useful with the ball in India, I think.
Matthew Renshaw: 3/10
I haven’t had much luck contributing, to be honest.
Alex Carey: 6/10
I didn’t have a bat. He’s going to have to keep working on his wicketkeeping to slow down the bowling. I sometimes thought he struggled a little to the stumps.
Ashton agar: 3/10
Disappointing game for him. It didn’t really look like it had a box office. Didn’t really bother batsmen as much on slow pitch. I haven’t had the opportunity to have a bat either. So a tough match for him after such a long absence.
Pat Cummins: 9/10
I think he had a very good game. Good captain, very well played. His spell late on the fourth day was an excellent spell. Gave Australia every chance to win. So a very good test match.
Lyon claim last Proteas wicket
Nathan Lyons: 7/10
Well played no luck. I was flabbergasted by a few referee decisions that went against him. But worked extremely well, kept asking questions and another day could have picked up a lot more wickets.
Josh Hazlewood: 9/10
I think he, like Pat Cummins, had a really good game. Very good in the first runs. Fresh air. Good to see him coming back from injury and bowling well.
