On the first day of the 2022 Indian Premier League mega auction, a hotly contested bid for Sri Lanka’s Waning Hasaranga – the price topped Rs 10.50 crore – was stopped dead when auctioneer, Hugh Edmeades, suddenly collapsed. It was later announced that he was fine and famous cricket commentator Charu Sharma would take over.
It happened so suddenly that confusion reigned for some time; there was no news on what exactly happened. Eventually, the tweets started coming in, saying the 36-year-old veteran auctioneer is doing well. Cricket specialist Gautam, who was present at the scene, confirmed Edmeades was fine. Bhimani said the auctioneer suffered a physical fall – he appeared to have taken a misstep – and it was not related to his health.
