Milenio Televisión reported that the officers were carrying out routine rounds, when armed individuals aboard a van overtook the municipal elements to hit them from the back of the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and crash into a traffic sign.

Elements of different corporations arrived at the place, such as the National Guard and the Municipal Police, as well as agents of the Attorney General of the State of Guanajuato (FGEG) to protect the area. The injured police officers were taken to nearby hospitals.
