Atlas lionesses off to a good start

The women’s national team led the debates in the CAN2022 by winning by 1 but at 0, Saturday, against Burkina Faso on the occasion of the first day of the group stage. The only but of the match was scored by Ghizlane Chebbak on a set piece with finesse.

It was in front of the eyes of the presidents of CAF, Patrice Motsepe, that of FIFA, Gianni Infantino and of the FRMF, Faouzi Lekjaa that the Atlas Lionesses signed their first victory of CAN 2022 by winning ( 1-0) against Burkina Faso. After a colorful opening ceremony, the Moroccans caused the meeting by putting pressure on the Burkinabe side to find a first goal. However, Moroccan attempts marked realism against a defensive balance of players from Burkina Faso. After several attempts, the Moroccans ended up unlocking the counter with a free kick very well taken by Ghizalne Chebbak (29th).

Far from giving up, the Burkina Faso players continued to defend without releasing their nets, while watching for the slightest opportunity to counter-attack. After going through the locker room, the Moroccans continued to dominate the game, without being able to concretize their offensive actions. Opposite, the Burkinabe have started to come out of their entrenchment to tickle the Moroccan defense.

In the end, the meeting ended with a victory (1-0) for Morocco. A success that does not reassure, when we know that the semi-final objective that the team hopes to achieve. The Lionesses will have another opportunity to raise their level in the second match of Group A which will oppose them on Tuesday against Uganda.
