Atlanta teenager works on producing dream music with help from nonprofit

ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS46) — There’s an incredible boost for Atlanta teenagers who dream of becoming famous music producers and creatives. If they can show that they are responsible and ready to manifest their potential, they get A-LIST help, for free!

“When I met him, I knew this kid was special,” music producer Will Hodge “Willy Will” said.

With the right support, a 13-year-old from Atlanta takes control of his future.

“The association is called Reaching Early Creatives. It’s for students aged 13 to 18,” Hodge said.

“I love making music. I love the creativity of it. I love being in the studio. It’s fun to see rappers rapping to your beats and hearing what they can come up with,” said Tamaj Pullen “MAPA”, 13 years old.

Music is the vehicle.

“It’s a treasure. It’s one of those things, which, they don’t come around often,” Hodge said.

Music runs in the blood of Tamaj Pullen. His uncle is a famous music producer, Honorable CNOTE

“My uncle wrote signed, sealed and delivered,” CNOTE said

Tamaj’s mentors believe the 13-year-old is doing something all his own. They also know he needs support. That’s when Will stepped in.

“I spoke in a few churches and his mother caught wind,” Hodge said.

Will started a project called Reaching Early Creatives.

“My mission was to provide underserved youth with the tools they need to reach their full creative potential; just using music as a vehicle to do that,” Hodge said.

The organization was designed to be what music was to Will when he was a kid.

“It saved my life. Being downtown, a lot of my friends were into things they shouldn’t have done. Between church and music, it saved my life. It saved me from bad situations,” Hodge said, “I keep my feet on the ground in the community. I will visit churches. I visit schools.

The kids have to write an essay on why they want to be in the program, and Will takes care of that.

“All the big stuff with the engineering, the mixing, really helped me with my creativity, all of it…for free,” Pullen said.

It’s a program for the creative, the hard-working, the young, the dreamer.
