At least seven people were injured in a shooting in Long Beach, California, on Saturday evening, according to police.

Officers with the Long Beach Police Department responded to the shooting in the area of South Street and Paramount Boulevard around 11:15 p.m. PT.

“Approximately seven victims have been reported at this time and all victims were self-transported or transported by LBFD to local hospitals,” the department said in a statement. Police have not shared what happened before the shooting.

Four of the victims are in critical condition, while three of them have non-life-threatening injuries, police said. It is unclear whether all the victims were shot.

Police believe at least two men shot at a group of people, according to an update shared Sunday on Facebook. No suspects are in custody and while the motive remains unclear, detectives believe the incident was gang-related.

Long Beach police asked the public to avoid the area early Sunday while they investigate, they said in a Facebook post.

“This police department is dedicated and focused on apprehending any violent offender using dangerous firearms to victimize our community,” said Chief Wally Hebeish. “The Long Beach Police Department has been actively investigating this shooting since last night, and we will continue to work until we identify and arrest those involved in this unacceptable act of gun violence.”
