At least 15 people were killed and about 12 others were taken to hospitals after an accident in southern California on Tuesday, authorities said.
The accident happened in Imperial, California, just north of the Mexican border.
Judy Cruz, general manager of the emergency department at El Centro Regional Medical Center, told a press conference that a 27-passenger vehicle struck a semi-trailer filled with gravel.
At least 14 people were pronounced dead at the scene and another person died in hospital. The conditions of those injured were not disclosed.
The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
