At least 1 person pulled from rubble after partial collapse of building on Chicago’s West Side – NBC Chicago

Dozens of firefighters were seen frantically digging through the rubble of a partial building collapse in Chicago’s West End on Tuesday afternoon, as rescuers pulled at least one victim from a basement apartment .

NBC’s Sky 5 helicopter arrived at the scene just after 4 p.m. Firefighters were seen in the 3400 block of West Jackson, located in the Fifth City neighborhood, after a three-story residence appeared to have partially collapsed.

Dozens of firefighters were seen gathered around the entrance to a basement partially covered in debris from the collapse. At least one victim was pulled from the rubble, but there was no update on his condition.

Authorities called for an EMS 1 plan to the scene, which would summon at least five ambulances to the area.

Authorities have shut down West Jackson in both directions near the site of the collapse, and rescue crews remain at the scene.
