A Texas Department of Public Safety soldier was shot dead while pursuing the suspect, the department tweeted, and is in serious but stable condition.
One person was later taken into custody in neighboring Grimes County, Sheriff Donald Sowell told CNN, adding that the incident could be linked to the shooting at the industrial park.
“That’s what we understand. We (are) right in the middle of it all,” Sowell said.
Bryan Police received a call around 2:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. ET) from an active gunman in the cabinets Kent Moore, Chief Eric Buske said.
Officers responded to the scene, but the gunman was gone by the time officers arrived at the scene, Buske said.
He said police found at least one dead and five shot dead. Four of them were taken to hospital in critical condition and the fifth was in “non-critical” condition, Buske said.
A sixth person was taken to hospital with an asthma attack, he said.
Buske previously said four people were shot, but later updated his statement.
Police believe the gunman was a company employee, Buske said, and police are investigating the motive.
“It’s a business, so there are a lot of employees who were inside,” said Police Lt. Bryan Jason James, “and (the police) are investigating who saw what and how it all happened. ‘has passed.”
Following the Bryan shooting, Governor Greg Abbott said in a statement that “the state will assist in any way necessary to help prosecute the suspect.”
“Cecilia and I pray for the victims and their families and for the officer injured in the suspect’s arrest,” Abbott said.
This story has been updated with new information from Bryan Police on the victims.
