Asian currencies are consolidating; Could strengthen in a context of risk sentiment

01:50 GMT — Asian currencies are consolidating against the dollar in early Asian trading, but could strengthen amid risk sentiment. Overnight diplomatic efforts to avoid an expansion of the Hamas-Israel conflict in the Middle East region supported a more positive start to the week in terms of risk sentiment, said Taylor Nugent, markets economist at NAB , in a comment. The more favorable risk environment has also been the dominant theme in foreign exchange markets, adds Nugent. AUD/USD rises 0.3% to 0.6351; USD/SGD was little changed at 1.3687; USD/KRW is up 0.2% at 1,351.43. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
