Asian Cup 2022 | Exclusion from the Indian team will make me work hard and score more points, comments Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan reflected on his omission from India’s squad for the upcoming Asian Cup saying it will inspire him to improve and keep doing better in the future. Ishan also felt that the selectors are fair because they put a lot of thought into shortlisting players who should have opportunities.

As Asian Cup will be an important step for the next T20 World Cup, BCCI announced a 15-member squad for the tournament. Surprisingly, Ichan Kishan hasn’t been included in the squad as they will start their campaign with a game against rivals Pakistan. Kishan’s omission comes as a surprise as he was India’s second top scorer in T20I this year. Ishan had 430 runs at 30.71 in 2022. He had also had a good season for Bombay Indians scoring 418 runs at 32.15.

Reflecting on his omission, the southpaw said it will inspire him to put in extra effort and score more points.

“I think what the coaches are doing is right. They thought a lot when selecting players about who should get the opportunity and where. It’s positive for me because if I’m not selected I will work more hard and score more When the coaches trust me, obviously they will keep me in the team,” Kishan told ANI.

The six teams participating in the Asian Cup are divided into two groups. Group A features India, Pakistan and a qualifying team while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are grouped together. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals and the tournament will ultimately go to the winner of the final.
