Mikel Arteta was usually guarded on squad news ahead of a trip to west London but confirmed his left-back’s setback.
Emile Smith Rowe continues to battle groin issues that have plagued him for nearly a year, and joins Mohamed Elneny and Reiss Nelson on the treatment table, which has left Arteta with several selection issues to overcome against a Brentford physical team.
Arteta did not explain Zinchenko’s absence during his pre-match press conference, but the Ukrainian FA confirmed the defender’s fitness on Friday afternoon. Kieran Tierney replaces.
A statement read: “Oleksandr Zinchenko will not be able to help the blues and yellows in the September UEFA Nations League matches.
“The Arsenal player suffered a calf injury while training at the club which will require two weeks of treatment and recovery.
“Oleksandr immediately personally informed the head coach of the Ukrainian national team, Oleksandr Petrakov, about the unfortunate news by calling him. We wish Sashka a speedy recovery.
Partey replaces Albert Sambi Lokonga after returning from injury as Fabio Vieira starts for the first time in the Premier League.
Academy talent Ethan Nwaneri, 15, is also in the squad. Ben White is in fine form despite missing out on a place in the England squad.
