illiam Saliba says the main lesson he learned from his loan spells away from Arsenal was a never-say-die attitude.

Mikel Arteta has been desperate to improve the Gunners’ mentality after last season’s failure to finish in the top four, and they have started the season in much better shape with a number of narrow wins attributed to their mental toughness.

When describing what he took away from his loan moves, he told Canal Plus, via GFFN. “This football is tough!

“[Also] that you have to keep working and never throw in the towel.

Saliba impressed during spells at Saint-Etienne, Nice and Marseille ahead of a long-awaited opportunity in the Arsenal squad.

Upon his return to north London, the 21-year-old spoke to Arteta about his role in the squad.

“We talked a little at the start of the season,” explained the Frenchman.

“He was happy with what I did during my loan. He is a very good coach, who really knows what he is doing. He is clear in everything he says. He helped me to m quickly integrate into this game system.

“Every day he gives advice on how to be better on the pitch.”
