They currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, two points ahead of rivals Tottenham, with four games remaining.

“I’m excited, grateful and really, really happy today,” Arteta said as he penned an extension that will run until the end of the 2024/25 season.

“When I spoke to Josh he could see the club in one place and he wanted to take the club the way I wanted to. So everything he said, and what Stan said when I was with the two of them have always been up to it.

“We want to take the club to the next level and really compete with the best teams. For that, we have to play the Champions League. We have to be able to develop the team, improve our players, improve all departments, to generate even more connection with our fans, to improve the atmosphere in the Emirates, to be able to recruit the best, the best talents and the best people for this club to lead this project at this level.

Eidevall is also extending his contract as, in his first season with the club, he is still screaming for the Women’s Super League title as they take on Chelsea to the finish.

He signed a contract until the end of the 2023/24 season.

“It’s great,” he said. “It allows me to continue to work for a club that I love so much and to be around people that I really, really love and to be able to achieve things together, so I’m really looking forward to it. “

Josh Kroenke, speaking on behalf of Kroenke owners, Sports & Entertainment, said: “My dad and I are delighted to have extended the contracts of Mikel and Jonas. It brings stability and clarity for the future and helps us all move forward effectively together.

“Mikel’s commitment and passion are evident to everyone. We are confident that as we move forward, he will lead us back to competing for the best trophies in the game.

“As for Jonas, he’s had a fantastic start to his career in England. He’s done a terrific job with the team, and we’re in contention for the title last weekend. We’re confident he’ll continue. to move us forward in the years to come.
