Remember the name, Charlie Patino… because Phil Jones and Dean Henderson certainly will.
The 17-year-old, who was tipped to become a big one by the scout who discovered Jack Wilshere, humbled the Man United duo in an Under-23 clash on Sunday.
He recovered the ball from inside United’s half of the field before launching into a wild scramble past three defenders – including Jones – and passing beautifully past Henderson.
And the goalkeeper was left seemingly stunned as he reacted after the ball hit the net.
It was a goal that served as proof as to why Patino is so beloved at the North London club.
Arsenal academy has produced Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe in recent years and Patino is said to be the next superstar in the making.
He is claimed to be on the cusp of being integrated into Arsenal’s first team, joining the pair of academy colleagues James Olayinka and Tim Akinola.
Midfielder Patino has already received the highest billing, being dubbed the club’s greatest talent for his age by the same man who discovered Wilshere as a young player.
Arsenal recruiter Brian Stapeleton spotted him at the age of 11 and there is no doubt that he will become a household name in British football.
“Of all the years I’ve been a recruiter he’s the best kid I’ve ever seen,” said Stapleton, who said he was signed after seeing him in action for Luton Town.
“I got a tip about Charlie from a guy so I went over there and couldn’t believe what I was seeing. He was 11 and I think he was playing in the under 13s, and I was like ‘wow’.
“His first touch was incredible, his vision, his awareness of space. He was way above his years, he was on a different planet than anyone else in the field.
“I called my head of department at Arsenal at the time, Sean O’Connor. He asked me what I was thinking and I said, ‘Well, I’m not coming back. you don’t need to see any more, you need to sign this kid right now.
Stapleton added: “Sean O’Connor discovered Jack Wilshere and he told me Charlie was the best player to ever walk through the gates of Hale End.
“The kid has so much potential, but he’s not here yet.”
