Arsenal: Pep Guardiola quizzed on Ilkay Gundogan’s future amid transfer interest

Standard Sport understands Mikel Arteta has made the midfielder a key summer transfer target, with the Gunners hoping to link the five-time Premier League winner with Declan Rice.

City and Guardiola are keen to tie Gundogan to a new contract, which is currently due to expire at the end of next month. Barcelona have long been keen to sign the 32-year-old on a free transfer.

Asked about Gundogan’s future on Tuesday, Guardiola shrugged and said: “I can’t tell you anything, I don’t know anything.”

Gundogan is not expected to make a decision on his future until the Champions League final on June 10.

Guardiola was answering questions ahead of the Premier League clash between City and Brighton, which comes four days after their third successive title was confirmed and three days after lifting the trophy.

City’s players were allowed to celebrate on Sunday night, and Guardiola is unsure of his players’ fitness status ahead of the game.

“They celebrated after the game against Chelsea, I don’t know how they will feel tomorrow but they have to do it,” he added.
