Arsenal finally announced the signing of Ben White this afternoon, a move that was one of the worst-kept secrets.
There seemed to be daily updates on the vacation defender’s arrival and then the various stages of his medical examination.
The £ 50million transfer was all but confirmed this afternoon when a photo of him holding an Arsenal shirt, alongside Mikel Arteta and Edu, was leaked online.
The Gunners finally confirmed the deal at 4 p.m. today, with the club joking that the photo was leaked.
They wrote on Twitter: “𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹’s signature images always look a lot nicer, don’t they? Here’s a better angle.
The 23-year-old, who was part of the Three Lions squad for Euro 2020, signed a long-term contract in the Emirates after completing his medical exam on Friday.
White impressed for the Seagulls last season, making 36 Premier League appearances, and leaving for a club record amount.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said on the club’s website: “Ben was a prime target for us and it’s great that we’ve completed his signing.
“Ben was educated with two very good clubs, Brighton and Leeds, the last few seasons. He has benefited from two very good coaching courses and has shown both with Brighton and on loan with Leeds what a great talent he is.
“Ben is a smart defender who is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and his style suits us perfectly.
“And of course he’s still young, so his age and profile matches what we’re building here. We all look forward to seeing Ben at the center of our future long-term plans. “
