Villarreal’s success under Unai Emery has certainly had Arsenal fans looking back on his time at the club.
The Spanish side secured a surprise spot in the Champions League semi-finals with a 2-1 aggregate win over German giants Bayern Munich.
With Emery the mastermind behind such a win, some north London supporters have reconsidered his fate as Gunners boss.
Under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have certainly gotten things back on track, but with their ex-boss now in the bottom four of Europe’s biggest competition, it’s natural for some to wonder what might have happened if they didn’t. hadn’t sacked as boss. November 2019.
However, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor, there is no point in looking back for Arsenal fans, and the same goes for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who now plays for Barcelona with 10 goals in 14 games.
He told talkSPORT Breakfast: “I don’t think it was [working].
“It’s good to look at this now, but I think Arsenal need to let go of the past and focus on what Arteta is doing for Arsenal now.
“He’s got them playing good football, bringing in young players and needs a helping hand with a new striker arriving this summer, but stop looking at Unai Emery.

“Circumstances are different in Villarreal. When he was at Arsenal it didn’t work and Arsenal fans couldn’t wait for him to leave.
He added: “It’s like with [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang. As soon as he scores people say they can’t believe they let him go, but he lost interest in Arsenal.
“It didn’t work out and it was a decision that suited him. It’s a league that perhaps suits him better too and Arsenal need to move on.
When asked if they got rid of him too soon, Ally McCoist added: “I don’t think so, but sometimes you just get a good fit.
“Players get it at clubs, players get it with teammates, managers and coaches get it with clubs as well. Just because it didn’t work out for Emery at Arsenal doesn’t mean he isn’t a mixed bag of success.
“It’s the same question with David Moyes and Manchester United. Did they get rid of him too quickly? I think so.
“They got rid of Moyesy, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a good coach or a good manager because look at what he’s achieved.
“Sometimes you just get a good fit and nobody can doubt for a minute Emery’s talent as a coach.”
