Arsenal are closing in on a £ 50million deal for Ben White, according to reports.
It is understood that Brighton rejected the Gunners’ £ 40million offer for their star defender last week.
However, The Athletic claim Arsenal could land White for an initial £ 45million plus £ 5million in supplements.
The report adds that White, 23, has had encouraging face-to-face talks with Arsenal chiefs and that accepting personal terms shouldn’t be a problem.
White, who made 36 Premier League appearances in a decisive season with Brighton last season, is currently part of the England squad for their Euro 2020 campaign.
He has won two international friendlies, but has yet to make an appearance at the tournament.
Arsenal’s potential deal for White was backed by club legend David Seaman, who won two Premier League titles and four FA Cups in north London.
He told talkSPORT: “People of this quality have to come to Arsenal.
“I think we’re taking that path of players where they have promising young careers ahead of them.
“The days of signing big players – who are here now – Arsenal will have a hard time with that because they are not in Europe.
“The key players don’t just want to play in Europe, they want to play in the Champions League.
“At the moment Arsenal are far from that and they have to restructure their transfer policy.
“Arsène Wenger used to choose people and he signed them and we asked: ‘who is this? Then they turned out to be Thierry Henry!
