Meghan McCain managed to anger many Twitter users on Monday’s episode of “The View” when she accused an old family friend and current President Joe Biden of “do yourself serious spiritual harm and harm this country” by supporting abortion rights.
McCain was responding to recent attempts by American Catholic bishops to block communion for Catholic politicians like Biden who believe people should have safe and legal access to medical procedure.
The non-Catholic co-host of “The View” falsely suggested that Biden’s support for reproductive rights is a cardinal sin. She also wondered why someone who says they are personally opposed to abortion would not be comfortable imposing this belief on the rest of the country.
McCain likened the President’s position to saying, “I am personally opposed to murder, but if you want to kill a little bit, that’s fine because it’s not my problem.”
Co-host Sunny Hostin pointed out to McCain that the same bishops attacking Biden hadn’t said anything when former Attorney General William Barr, who is also a Catholic, introduced the death penalty for federal crimes, despite the death penalty being against Church doctrine.
Nor did they convict another Catholic, Newt Gingrich, for cheating on his ex-wife with his current wife, Callista, who coincidentally served as the United States’ ambassador to the Vatican.
Many Twitter users have trailed McCain for ignoring these details.
Of course, some people had questions.
