Arrested in connection with fatal Huntsville shooting

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has announced that it has arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting.

The HPD said Omondo Jermaine Varner Jr., 25, was charged in connection with a shooting that occurred just after midnight on Saturday morning.

HPD said officers responded to the 4000 block of Univerity Drive and found a victim identified as 26-year-old Christopher Cattage dead inside a vehicle.

The HPD said Major Crimes Unit investigators believe a verbal altercation led to the shooting between the two men who were acquaintances.

Varner was incarcerated in Madison County Jail and charged with murder. It currently has no link. The HPD said the matter is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
