Arrest of Sean “Diddy” Combs

Sean Combs, known as Diddy, was arrested Monday, according to a person familiar with the investigation.

He was arrested in the lobby of a New York hotel, a representative said.

Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, released a statement saying, “We are disappointed by the decision to pursue what we consider to be an unfair prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.”

Diddy, he said, “is an imperfect person but he is not a criminal. It must be acknowledged that Mr. Combs has only cooperated with this investigation and voluntarily moved to New York last week in anticipation of these charges. Please reserve judgment until you have all the facts.”

“These are the actions of an innocent man who has nothing to hide, and he is eager to clear his name in court,” Agnifilo said.

It’s unclear exactly what charges the rapper-turned-music mogul was arrested on, but the arrest comes amid a wave of sexual assault lawsuits filed against him and an ongoing federal investigation.

The federal investigation became public in March when federal agents executed search warrants at his properties in Los Angeles and Miami.

Investigators have interviewed several people in connection with allegations of sex trafficking, sexual assault and solicitation and distribution of illegal narcotics and firearms, a source familiar with the investigation told NBC News in March.

The search warrant for Combs’ property came from the Southern District of New York, NBC News previously reported.
