COLLEGE PARK, Ga. (AP) – Police were looking for a murder suspect near the Atlanta airport after he escaped from sheriff’s deputies returning him to Arizona.
Officials say Jsaan Carlos Strover escaped two Maricopa County MPs as they dropped off a rental car at the airport.
Strover, 20, is wanted for murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault in Arizona. He was arrested by US Marshals in the Atlanta area on April 12 on other charges, but was already wanted in Arizona.
Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat told reporters Strover fled after MPs freed his legs so he could descend the stairs.
“They took off the legrests to escort him down the steps and at that point he pushed them,” Labat said.
Strover was last seen wearing a blue jacket, white T-shirt and black sweatpants, but he had no shoes on, police said. He was handcuffed and shackled around his waist, with “risk” tattooed on the front of his neck.
Dozens of agents from several agencies were searching for Strover with dogs and helicopters on Thursday.
Officials warn Strover is dangerous, but say they don’t believe he has a gun. Police urge anyone who sees him to call 911.
