‘Are you sure?’ – Alexander Volkanovski questioned Korean Zombie’s decision to go for the fourth round before stopping him at UFC 273

Alexander Volkanovski retained his UFC featherweight title with a dominating display against the Korean zombie – Chan-Sung Jung – in the main event of UFC 273.

‘The Great’ was at his destructive best from the first bell and his dominance is evident in the major strike stats that show he edged out the Korean Zombie 138-48.

The fight barely made it to the championship rounds as at the end of the third frame, Volkanovski landed a barrage of punches that left the Korean zombie dazed, confused and lying on the canvas.

After slowly stepping off the mat and into his corner, Jung sat against the fence, staring completely outside as his team tended to him.

In a moment of mercy, before the start of the fourth round, Volkanovski could be seen asking his opponent: “Are you sure?”

The Korean zombie gave the featherweight king a smile and a nod before the two men started to let go of their hands.

Moments later, the fight was over.

Volkanovski again caught up with the Korean Zombie and oft-criticized referee Herb Dean thankfully dropped the fight, even though Jung was still standing.

After the fight, Volkanovski admitted that he started to feel bad for beating his opponent, who he felt should have been taken out of the fight much sooner.

“Man, I’ve been telling you before this fight all week, I was like, ‘I’m on another level right now.’ I can’t be stopped and I just showed you,” Volkanovski said in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.

“He actually took a lot more than I wanted him to. I thought they could have arrested him a little earlier. I started to feel bad about it, but that’s the sport we’re in.

Volkanovski was supposed to complete his trilogy of fights with Max Holloway at UFC 272, but ‘Blessed’ was forced out of the fight due to injury and the Australian was given a new date and a new opponent.

The 145-pound former champion is now fully fit and eager to go and Volkanovski sent a message to him and all the other contenders during his post-fight speech.

“Everyone in my division,” he said. “I’ve been saying that for a while now. Collect your bullshit, earn that number one spot and you’ll get it. Otherwise you will f****** miss out. It’s so easy.”
