Apple’s top executive Tony Blevins quits following rude remark about women in viral TikTok video

Apple’s Tony Blevins, a key player in the company’s supply chain operations, is leaving the iPhone maker, the company confirmed Thursday, without giving a reason.

The move comes after a TikTok video of the executive making a rude remark about women went viral. Bloomberg first reported Blevins’ departure.

In a video on TikTok posted earlier this month, Blevins can be heard saying, “I have rich cars, I play golf and fondle busty women, but I take the weekends and the big ones. vacation” in response to a question about what he did for a living.

Blevins had been approached by TikTok content creator Daniel Mac at a car show as part of a series of videos in which Mac asks owners of expensive cars about their business.

Mac and Blevins’ companion in a Mercedes sports car laughed as Blevins spoke spontaneously as he got out of the car. Bloomberg reported that Blevins appeared to be referring to an almost identical line spoken by the title character in the 1981 film “Arthur.”

Apple has not commented on the reason for Blevins’ departure. Attempts by Reuters to reach Blevins for comment were unsuccessful. Bloomberg cited a statement from Blevins in which the executive apologized for offending what he called a “mistaken attempt at humor.”

Blevins, vice president of Apple, has played an important role in the company’s supply chain operations.

His job was to line up two to six vendors for each of the thousands of components of Apple products and pit those vendors against each other to get better prices for Apple. A 2020 profile of Blevins in The Wall Street Journal said he was known within the iPhone maker as “Blevinator.”
