Antony Blinken tests positive for COVID-19 after WH Correspondents Dinner

WASHINGTON — The State Department said Wednesday that Secretary of State Antony Blinken tested positive for COVID-19 after attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and related events over the weekend.

Spokesman Ned Price said Blinken tested positive in an OPCR test on Wednesday afternoon. Price said Blinken was fully vaccinated and had only mild symptoms.

Blinken tested negative on Tuesday and again earlier Wednesday morning. Blinken has not met President Joe Biden in person for “several days” and is not considered a close contact with the President.

He met earlier Wednesday at the State Department with the Swedish foreign minister. Blinken was scheduled to deliver a speech Thursday on the Biden administration’s China policy, but Price said that speech was postponed.

Price said Blinken will self-isolate at home and work until the end of the quarantine period.

He is the latest figure in the Biden administration to test positive. Vice President Kamala Harris was cleared to return to the White House on Tuesday after testing positive last week.
