Antonio Conte reveals details of ‘important’ transfer meeting with Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici

Conte met with Spurs president and general manager Paratici on Monday to present his assessment of the squad and discuss January’s goals.

It is understood that the trio have agreed to prioritize signing a new right-back – with Wolves’ Adama Traore their main target – a midfielder and striker this month, while a number of players marginals will be available for transfer.

Conte has repeatedly described Spurs as “in the middle” in a damning assessment of the team’s level following last week’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, and his assessment of his players probably made it uncomfortable to listen to Levy.

Asked about the details of Monday’s meeting, Conte insisted he hadn’t tried to be “too gentle” or “polite” with Levy and Paratici, but said he was happy with the outcome. .

“It was a good meeting,” Conte said ahead of Wednesday’s second leg against his former club.

“With Paratici, I have the possibility to speak every day but to have the possibility of speaking with our owner [Levy] was important.

“I like to have that type of relationship, to be honest and always tell the truth. You know, I don’t like lying to keep a good relationship or being really sweet or being overly polite. It was good to tell the truth and it was a good meeting.

“Now for me it’s ok, I asked the club for time to do my assessment [of the squad]. The club asked after a month to have a meeting and I said no, I’d rather have another month to do the correct assessment. It’s honest, to give myself and the players more time, to show me who deserves to stay here.

“Now the situation is very clear and I had this meeting, I was satisfied to have this conversation with the owner.

“Now I only have one way. It’s on the pitch and the training sessions every day. My only way to improve the situation is to improve the level of my players and thus the level of the team will increase. Then the club knows the situation and if they want to help me in any other way, I appreciate it. Otherwise, I continue to work as I do. “
