Antonio Conte calls Harry Kane into Tottenham locker room after record goal: ‘You make me proud’

Kane scored his 267th goal for the club, taking him past Jimmy Greaves and atop Spurs’ goalscoring charts, with a first-half strike that proved enough for a 1-0 win in the north of London.

It’s City’s fifth time playing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and they’ve lost without scoring each time.

Conte was not present to watch his side fight for a hard-fought victory, as he continues his recovery from surgery to remove his gallbladder earlier in the week. He suffered from “severe abdominal pain” which led to a diagnosis of cholecystitis.

It was uncertain in the build-up to the match whether Conte would return from Italy for the match, but it was ultimately decided that he was not yet good enough.

However, Conte called and Kane was given the phone to speak to him after the game in the Spurs dressing room as the Italian paid tribute to his striker.

“Harry! Yeah good, good, good,” Conte replied when asked how he felt. “You make me proud!”
