Anthony Martial and Fred among unlikely first scorers of Erik ten Hag’s reign as Manchester United beat Liverpool in pre-season friendly

There were some unlikely heroes in Manchester United’s pre-season clash with Liverpool which saw the Red Devils run out of surprise winners 4-0.
Forgotten man Anthony Martial scored Man United’s third goal with a delightful finish on the pressed Alisson. In contrast, Liverpool big money Darwin Nunez fired a shot from just over six yards over the bar.

Jadon Sancho started the ball rolling for Man United by bringing home a loose ball in the 12th minute.
Fred made it 2-0 as he deftly lobbed fellow Brazilian Alisson with a delicious chip from the edge of the box.
After Martial made it 3-0 on 33 minutes the game was over but the Red Devils put some shine to the scoreline with academy star Facundo Pellistri adding another in the 77th minute .
By contrast, Nunez, who joined the Reds in what could be a record £85m deal earlier this summer, kicked the ball over the bar after Mohamed Salah’s shot returned from the post with goaltender Tom Heaton.
Ten Hag said after the game: “I know we have good players, now we have to build a team. I’m happy with the first game.
“It will take a long time [to get this team playing my way]. I saw a lot of mistakes today. Let’s be honest, Liverpool play in three teams, they weren’t at their best.

“You shouldn’t overestimate this result, but I still saw some very good things. We have a lot of creativity and speed up front. Like I said, we have potential.
Meanwhile, new signing Tyrell Malacia told MUTV: “I’m very happy, it’s amazing to be here and to wear this shirt.
“It was difficult because it was very hot, but we managed it.
“I hope to bring a good defense, to bring assists and energy to the team.
