Anthony Gordon is ‘top talent’ as criticism of £60m valuation for Chelsea target branded ‘unfair’

Tony Cascarino has suggested Everton star Anthony Gordon is worth £60m with Chelsea set to move for the winger.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is keeping tabs on the 21-year-old and could launch an attack ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Gordon fired Everton ahead of Brentford on Saturday amid Chelsea links

Gordon has been the bright spark of a dismal 2022 so far for the Toffees and it could get worse in Frank Lampard’s side, with Gordon keen to move to west London.

The Everton academy graduate calmly hid his goal to open the scoring in their 1-1 draw at Brentford on Saturday.

Despite his strong start to the campaign, the jury is out for much on his hefty assessment, with Simon Jordan urging Everton to take the £60million said to be on the table and run.

But Cascarino thinks the quoted price is fair.

“I think it’s a bit unfair that everyone is saying he’s not worth this and he’s not worth that. I think Chelsea saw a very special talent and decided to go after him,” he said. Cascarino told talkSPORT.

“The Evertonians won’t like it because they recognize he’s a very good player and they want to keep one of their own because the fans don’t like losing theirs. He’s a great footballer.

Gordon celebrated his Brentford goal with his fingers in his ears as he responded to ongoing links with Chelsea

“People will say it’s £60m for a potential player, but the potential is at the highest value now. Proven [players] in some ways not as good as potential [players] now, but I think Anthony Gordon has already proven himself to be a really great talent.

Gordon made 64 appearances for Everton, scoring five goals and adding eight assists, but his form has improved in recent months as he helped the Toffees avoid relegation last season and has so far been a outstanding artist this quarter.

Former Chelsea striker Cascarino believes Gordon has many facets to his game and has been supportive of Chelsea’s pursuit of the starlet.

“His pace is quite clear, he can run straight, he has a good turn and he will pass people,” Cascarino added.

“He is fearless, tenacious and he has a lot of good things in his game.”
