Manpearl, who is a software engineer, shared that the roof of the house had completely collapsed and Heche’s car was completely lodged inside the house and covered in debris.

“He went through the house to the back of the house,” Manpearl said of Heche’s car. “The windows were broken, so I opened the back door of the car.”

Before the actress’ car burst into flames, Manpearl was able to communicate with Heche, who he said was conscious immediately after the crash.

Manpearl said the car then caught fire and it would have been “impossible” to save Heche with the way the car was positioned and the speed with which the Mini Cooper caught fire.

“She finally responded and said she was not well,” Manpearl added of Heche. “So it was hard.”

“How could anyone be okay after losing their home and everything in it?” Manpearl spoke about the tenant’s emotional state following the accident. He noted that he was with the woman when he was told her house had been “marked red” and she could not return.

“There was a great outpouring of support from neighbours,” he said. “They brought her food and shoes, she had no shoes, and other things to help her.” Manpearl said his friends eventually came to his house and she left with them.
