Ankeny woman charged after returning dead dog, neglected dog

The Des Moines Police Department has made an arrest in the case of a deceased dog and a badly neglected dog. Amber Robison, of Ankeny, was arrested over the weekend after police said she brought a dead black Labrador-type dog and an emaciated German Shepherd to the Iowa Animal Rescue League. Police said the black Labrador-type dog was emaciated and covered in its own trash. A police report said “the vet tech said the dog would need to be left for three to four weeks to get to its current condition.” The dog had been brought in with its cage containing feces and urine. Veterinarians said the dog had starved to death. Authorities said the German Shepherd was eight months old and suffered from severe dehydration with his spine and ribs prominent. The dog was taken care of immediately. Robison has been charged with two counts of animal neglect and has since been released from Polk County Jail.
