Andy Robertson jokes with Trent Alexander-Arnold that he’s Liverpool’s best full-back ‘by a mile’ after Gary Neville compliment

It’s not every day that Liverpool players repeat phrases uttered by Manchester United legends.

But unfortunately for Trent Alexander-Arnold, that’s all he’s heard this week.

The Reds travel to Paris this Saturday for their Champions League final game against Real Madrid, and Alexander-Arnold is expected to help form his side’s backline.

It is likely that fellow full-back Andy Robertson will also join him in the line-up.

The two players have played 46 games each this season and each has played a pivotal role in helping Jurgen Klopp’s side to the joint best record for least goals conceded this season (alongside Manchester City), as well as in contributing to Liverpool’s attack.

However, Manchester United cult hero and former right-back Gary Neville has recently claimed that Robertson is the best of the pair, claiming he is the best full-back in the Premier League “by a mile”.

And Robertson isn’t letting Trent forget Neville’s comment as they prepare for the big show for the treble this weekend.

“I used it with Trent last week,” Robertson said. “I just tell him ‘one mile’ and keep telling him.

“I walk past and that’s all I have to say. He knows exactly what I’m talking about because I know he watched it. This is the relationship that me and him have.

And Robertson confirmed he didn’t mind at all that it was a former United captain who paid him the compliment.

He explained: “It was someone who played for Manchester United who said that but, for me, he was one of the best full-backs in the Premier League and to have someone like that saying that set me back a bit. Obviously, that kind of praise is always nice.

“I don’t necessarily need it, but when you hear it from someone so thoughtful in the game, it was really great words and I appreciated hearing it from him. .”

But while Robertson more than agrees with Neville’s comments, Alexander-Arnold doesn’t quite feel the same considering he’s contributed more assists (12) than Robertson this season (10).

“Trent isn’t too happy.” Robertson joked.

“He gets enough praise. You could fill this room with people saying he’s the best full-back in a mile. He’s not short of that.

“We end up on a lot of things and he usually has the upper hand. I’ll take this one.

So if Alexander-Arnold seems to have kicked into high gear on Saturday (if that’s even possible), we’ll all know why.
