Andrew Lloyd Webber’s son ‘hospitalized’ and ‘critically ill’ battles stomach cancer


Famous composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has announced that his son Nicholas is “critically ill” and battling gastric cancer.

The “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” musician also revealed that Nick is now hospitalized with ongoing medical issues, in a statement shared by Webber’s reps with Fox News Digital.

“I am absolutely devastated to say that my eldest son Nick is seriously ill,” Webber said.

“As my friends and family know, he has been battling stomach cancer for 18 months and Nick is now in hospital.”

Although the form of Nick’s disease has not been further disclosed, gastric cancer is more commonly referred to as stomach cancer.

“So I was unable to attend recent previews of ‘Bad Cinderella’ and as things stand, I won’t be able to cheer on its wonderful cast, crew and orchestra on opening night this Thursday,” Webber said.

His latest Broadway production is a reimagining of “Cinderella” which ran in London’s West End from 2021-2022.

A press event for the new show is scheduled to coincide with the celebrated composer’s 75th birthday on Wednesday, March 22.

“We’re all praying that Nick turns the corner,” Webber added. “He fights bravely with his indomitable humor, but right now my place is with him and his family.”

Nicholas took over the family music gene and was the composer for the 2021 British film “The Last Bus”.

He also won awards for his work on the 2017 BBC drama ‘Love, Lies and Records’ and earned a Grammy nomination as co-producer for Best Musical Theater Album on his father’s ‘Cinderella’. in 2021.

Andrew was married to Nicholas’ mother, Sarah Hugill, for 12 years before divorcing in 1983. The former couple also have a daughter, Imogen Lloyd Webber.

EGOT and the Kennedy Center Honoree will close “The Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway in 2023. Present on Broadway since 1988, the production was originally scheduled to wrap Feb. 18, a day after previews of “Bad Cinderella”. But due to such demand for tickets, the show was given an eight-week extension and a new closing date was set for April 16.

His astonishing run on “The Great White Way” means a Lloyd Webber musical will have played Broadway every night since September 1979.
