Andreas Christensen has reverted to a Chelsea shirt in his Instagram profile picture and deleted a post about his arrival at Barcelona.
The Danish defender, 26, is yet to be registered in La Liga despite swapping Stamford Bridge for Camp Nou on a free transfer in July.
Barcelona begin their league campaign against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday and financial hurdles have delayed the club from registering five new signings.
According to ESPN, Christensen and Franck Kessie, who both arrived on free transfers, can leave for nothing if they are not registered in La Liga by Saturday.
It is understood that Barcelona are not concerned about the situation and, having already used a number of financial levers, the Catalans are confident to raise the £85m needed to prove they have the budget to fund their squad. .
Guardian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the clause in Christensen and Kessie’s contracts but insists both players expect to stay at Barca for ‘many years’.
Nonetheless, Christensen’s behavior on social media will alarm the Camp Nou faithful.
As the rumors swirled, the Danish centre-back changed his Instagram profile picture to an image of him wearing a Chelsea shirt and deleted a post relating to his move to Barca.
