The top 50 donors this cycle collectively pumped $1.1 billion into political committees and other competing groups midterm, according to a Washington Post analysis of Federal Election Commission data. From billionaire investors to shipping tycoons to casino moguls, these mega-donors skew Republicans, despite affiliating with both parties.

Topping the list are George Soros, a Hungarian-born Holocaust survivor and philanthropist to liberal causes around the world, and Elizabeth and Richard Uihlein, founders of a shipping company and key benefactors behind the GOP’s shift to the right. has been going on for the past few years.

Many of the characters on the list are familiar faces, but some are new to the scene, especially a handful of millennials such as 30-year-old Sam Bankman-Fried, who recently received a financial windfall from investments in the cryptocurrency.
