An initial investigation indicates that the driver of the SUV crossed a double yellow line, officials said.

An Audi SUV rammed an ambulance transporting a patient to MelroseWakefield Hospital on Friday morning, according to a statement from Wakefield Police.

Officials said the Cataldo Ambulance Services ambulance was struck near 721 Main Street around 10:37 a.m.

An initial investigation indicates that the driver of the SUV crossed a double yellow line and collided with the ambulance, the statement said.

Authorities said the ambulance was taking a patient to MelroseWakefield Hospital at the time of the crash. Another ambulance arrived to transport the patient to hospital, the statement said.

Police said no injuries were reported. The ambulance was damaged in the rear on the driver’s side, the statement said. Police said both vehicles were towed to the scene.

The driver of the Audi SUV was cited for a marked lane violation, according to the statement.
