The coast of the department could be subject to containment on weekends, as requested by most local elected officials, in the face of the increase in the number of contaminations in the Alpes-Maritimes.

Faced with the resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic in the department, the LREM deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes Alexandra Valetta-Ardisson asked the French on BFMTV on February 21 not to go “in the days to come” to the territory.

In Nice in particular, the incidence rate is particularly high, with more than 700 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while the national average is 190. In addition, around 10% of Covid-19 tests are positive, against 6 % for the whole country.

“We are really calling for the responsibility of all French people by saying to them: ‘Do not come in the days to come, do not come to spend your holidays in the Alpes-Maritimes. Come later, once the epidemic will be gone “”, explained the elected official, saying she is in favor of the establishment of a weekend containment in the department.

Towards weekend containment in the department?

This is one of the avenues for developing measures in the Alpes-Maritimes. After consultation with local elected officials, the prefecture announced on February 21 that it had sent proposals for increased restrictions to the government – without specifying their precise terms. According to AFP, the hypothesis of localized confinement on weekends, which would be a first in metropolitan France, would be favored by the authorities. An announcement could be made on February 22 in the morning, according to BFMTV.

“The decision is almost stopped. We are moving towards containment at the weekend, ”said LR deputy Eric Ciotti in Nice morning, hoping that “the high country, which is less affected by the epidemic, is preserved”. The confinement on Saturdays and Sundays of the coastal municipalities, from Menton to Théoule-sur-Mer, is also favored by the LR mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, who wishes to discourage the influx of tourists.

On France Inter, the deputy LREM Alexandra Valetta-Ardisson reported the tracks proposed by elected officials during a meeting on February 20 in the evening with the prefect: “Wearing the generalized mask”, “strengthening of controls”, hardening of “ the gauge for shopping centers “,” confinement targeted at weekends and only on the coast “and” the ban on entry into the department, unless there is a compelling reason “. On the other hand, “we said that we did not want a general reconfinement”, she specified.

“This notion of making confinement on the coastal strip […] on weekends, it is also to avoid a massive influx of tourists, […] people who come from neighboring departments, but also from France ”, justified the elected official on BFMTV.
