Airport Operator of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Delhi Airport has announced the soft launch of “DigiYatra” app along with the beta version. This application will speed up e-boarding at the airport.
Delhi Airport is among the first airports to install the system in the country. It provides contactless and seamless processing at airports. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has installed the required facility for DigiYatra at Terminal 3.
Nearly 20,000 passengers used the facility during the trials and enjoyed a smooth and safe travel experience. The beta version of the DigiYatra app is currently available for download from the Google Play Store (for Andriod phones). What is DigiYatra?
The ‘DigiYatra’ app is a Biometric Seamless Travel Experience System (BEST) based on facial recognition technology. The facility aims to provide a paperless and seamless travel experience for passengers. It will automate the entry of passengers into airport terminals through a facial recognition system at all checkpoints, including the entrance gate, security check areas, aircraft boarding , etc.
DigiYatra will make the boarding process much faster as each passenger would take less than three seconds at each touchpoint. With facial recognition, passengers will no longer need to produce documents such as ID, proof of vaccination or boarding pass at checkpoints.
The system will also provide enhanced security at the airport as passenger data is validated with the airlines’ departure control system, allowing only designated passengers to enter the terminal. The whole process is non-intrusive and automated allowing better staff optimization for stakeholders such as CISF, airlines and others.
