The beta version of the app is available on Google Play Store, and it will soon be available on Apple’s App Store as well.

Airport Operator of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Delhi Airport has announced the soft launch of “DigiYatra” app along with the beta version. This application will speed up e-boarding at the airport.

Delhi Airport is among the first airports to install the system in the country. It provides contactless and seamless processing at airports. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has installed the required facility for DigiYatra at Terminal 3.

Nearly 20,000 passengers used the facility during the trials and enjoyed a smooth and safe travel experience. The beta version of the DigiYatra app is currently available for download from the Google Play Store (for Andriod phones). The app will soon be available on Apple’s App Store (for IOS phones) in a few weeks, according to a report from Business Standard.

What is DigiYatra?

The ‘DigiYatra’ app is a Biometric Seamless Travel Experience System (BEST) based on facial recognition technology. The facility aims to provide a paperless and seamless travel experience for passengers. It will automate the entry of passengers into airport terminals through a facial recognition system at all checkpoints, including the entrance gate, security check areas, aircraft boarding , etc.

DigiYatra will make the boarding process much faster as each passenger would take less than three seconds at each touchpoint. With facial recognition, passengers will no longer need to produce documents such as ID, proof of vaccination or boarding pass at checkpoints.

The system will also provide enhanced security at the airport as passenger data is validated with the airlines’ departure control system, allowing only designated passengers to enter the terminal. The whole process is non-intrusive and automated allowing better staff optimization for stakeholders such as CISF, airlines and others.

How to use the DigiYatra app?

  • Travelers using Android phones can download the beta version of the app from the Google Play store and register on the app using name, email id, mobile number, contact details. identity (voter ID, driver’s license, Aadhaar, etc.) and a selfie that will be used for facial recognition.
  • During the first trip, the passenger must go to the check-in kiosk at the airport to validate the identity document. For Aadhaar, verification will be done online and for other IDs, CISF will verify manually.
  • At the special electronic gate, the passenger will scan their boarding pass or electronic ticket (printed or in electronic version).
  • After scanning, the system will validate the passenger details and flight details.
  • The DigiYatra ID will be verified by facial recognition.
  • After successful verification of the ticket and the DigiYatra ID, the e-Gate will open. In addition, the face of the passenger with a PNR ticket will be transformed into a unique token for the rest of the journey at the airport.
  • Passengers will only have to scan their face to enter the security zone and board the plane through the electronic gates managed by the facial recognition system.
