Alabama red snapper season is approaching

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Department of Marine Resources has announced that red snapper season will begin on Friday, May 27.

During this time, state waters and federal waters will be open to private and state-licensed anglers. The season will consist of four-day weekends, Friday through Monday, beginning May 27 and continuing until the private angler quota is reached.

The dates above apply only to anglers fishing from shore, private pleasure boats, and state-licensed Alabama commercial party boats. This does not apply to persons holding a federal for-hire fishing licence.

The ADCNR said it will continue to use Snapper Check to monitor landings from shore-based fishermen, private vessels and state charters during the season. They will provide weekly updates on outdooralabama.org.

The exact quota for 2022 has not yet been provided by NOAA Fisheries.
