Alabama A&M QB Aqeel Glass named SWAC Offensive Player of the Year

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WHNT) – The Southwestern Athletic Conference released their playoff football honors for the 2021 season on Monday.

Several Alabama A&M players were on the list, including QB Aqeel Glass, named offensive player of the year.

Alabama A & M’s Glass closed one of the most impressive careers in league history with a fitting final campaign, recording 3,568 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and 356.8 yards per game as well as an efficiency of passes 160.8 in ten games. Glass was also named to the offensive first team, along with RB Gary Quarles, WR Abdul-Fatai Ibrahim and WR Odieu Hilaire.

WR Dee Anderson was named in the second team offense.

Deion Sanders, NFL Hall of Fame member and current Jackson State University head coach, was named Coach of the Year after leading the Tigers to an overall record of 10-1 and 8-0 in conference matches.

“Sanders of Jackson State led the Tigers to a 10-1 overall record and a perfect 8-0 score in the SWAC regular season. Under Sanders’ leadership, the Tigers are currently ranked in the top 15 in the FCS Coaching Survey and are also ranked in the top 25 in the FCS Stats Survey. The Tigers won the SWAC Eastern Division title for the first time since the 2013 season. For his efforts, Sanders was named finalist for the FCS Stats Perform Award Eddie Robinson.
