According to PTI, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have had their contracts downgraded with BCCI, bringing changes to the salary structure of the Indian cricket team. Both Pujara and Rahane were in the A grade slab (worth Rs 5 crore) but have now been placed in the B grade bracket, following their lackluster performances in recent seasons and their recent sacking of the testing team.

Hardik Pandya, another Grade A member, has seen his shares drop massively over the past two seasons and was handed a Grade C contract (worth Rs 1 crore). The versatile player hasn’t featured for India since the T20 World Cup and questions remain over his fitness. Meanwhile, Wriddhiman Saha, who coach Rahul Dravid asked to retire, has also been granted a C-grade contract.

BCCI has four categories – A+ which has an annual remuneration of Rs 7 crore while categories A, B and C are valued at Rs 5 crore, Rs 3 crore and Rs 1 crore respectively. Indian team captain Rohit Sharma, ex-captain Virat Kohli and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah retain their places in the A+ bracket and will take home a whopping Rs 7 crore from their bids.

White ball vice-captain KL Rahul was retained in the Grade A list, alongside multi-format regulars Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami and Rishabh Pant. Notably, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shikhar Dhawan were demoted to Grade C, while Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj and Shreyas Iyer were granted Grade B contracts.

Shubman Gill, Hanuma Vihari, Washington Sundar and Mayank Agarwal headlined Category C, which also includes newcomer Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal and Umesh Yadav. Kuldeep Yadav found no favors and was not offered a contract.
