After more than a month of fighting, much of Mariupol is in ruins

Mariupol has been besieged by Russian troops and pro-Russian separatists for more than a month and has seen some of the fiercest urban warfare in the conflict in Ukraine. The fighting has flattened much of the city and the number of civilian deaths is not known so far. Many residents were unable to evacuate, trapped without power or essential supplies.

An analysis of satellite images by Masae Analytics, a company that uses photography to assess damage to buildings, revealed that much of the city was affected on April 5.
