AFCON 2022 top scorers: Aboubakar extends Golden Boot lead with Mané third

The Cameroon captain was in sublime form during his run at the tournament, scoring twice in both games against Burkina Faso and Ethiopia to seal the hosts’ place in the knockout stages with one game to spare.

He then added to his tally in the draw against Cape Verde and continued his scoring streak by scoring against Comoros and Burkina Faso in the round of 16.

His Indomitable Lions team-mate Karl Toko Ekambi did not finish far behind, with five goals after a brace against Gambia in the quarter-finals, while Malawi’s Gabadinho Mhango and Mali’s Ibrahima Kone finished on three.

Sadio Mane also has three, as he helped Senegal reach the final, with Mo Salah getting his second as Egypt beat Morocco. The duo can extend their tally in tonight’s final.

Sofiane Boufal won’t add his three, while Ibrahima Kone scored two goals for Mali in the tournament, both from penalties. Nicolas Pepe netted two goals and an assist, after playing a leading role in Ivory Coast’s progress to the knockout stages.

Ahmed Mognia scored a brace in a famous victory for Comoros against Ghana, and Jim Allevinah came on for Gabon in the absence of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Musa Barrow was the hero as The Gambia reached the quarter-finals, and he found himself with two goals and two assists to his name.
