Domestic stock markets ended higher in trading on Tuesday (May 23rd), but investors’ profit booking towards the end capped gains. The S&P BSE Sensex 30-stock ended up 18.11 points at 61,981.79, while the NSE Nifty 50 was up 33.60 points at 18,348. About 1,716 shares advanced, 1,686 shares declined and 110 shares remained unchanged.

Broader equity indices performed better than benchmarks, with all mid- and small-cap stocks rising. On a sector basis, the Nifty Metal index gained around 3%, followed by the Nifty Media, Auto and Pharma indices, which added around 1% each. Among the losers, the Nifty IT index lagged the most, while the Nifty Realty and Consumer Durables indices also finished lower.
