Acting Decatur Police Department Chief Todd Pinion has been offered a permanent position

DECATUR, Ala. –Decatur City officials have offered Acting Chief Todd Pinion the job of chief of the Decatur Police Department on a permanent basis.

Pinion was named at the Decatur City Council meeting on Monday night. Pro Tempore chairman Carlton McMasters said it was a difficult decision as there were three highly qualified candidates.

“The one thing I couldn’t get across is that over the last four to five months we’ve seen our crime rate go down and employee morale go up,” McMasters said during the interview. meeting. “Because of that, I think he’s proven he can do the job.”

Pinion now has the ability to negotiate the terms of the position.

Former Decatur Police Chief Nate Allen retired in January 2022. Allen transferred command of the DPD to Acting Chief Todd Pinion on January 25.
