Aaron Ramsdale is ‘f***ing weird – but I love him,’ says former Arsenal teammate

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner has admitted Aaron Ramsdale is “crazy” – but he still loves him.

In conversation with Kate Abdo, alongside former USA internationals Clint Dempsey and Charlie Davies, Turner revealed the truth about his former teammate.

Goalkeepers have long had a reputation for being a little wild.

But not Turner, who prides himself on being as normal as possible, even if he can’t say the same about his former Arsenal teammate Ramsdale.

Speaking to CBS Sports, the American said: “I think I’m probably the most normal goalkeeper.”

Abdo then asked the Nottingham Forest man who was the strangest, to which Turner scoffed and replied: “The strangest?”

“Whether Bobby Shuttlesworth, he was the first goalkeeper I saw where I thought ‘oh my god, this guy is crazy’.

“Or Aaron Ramsdale. He’s also crazy, that guy. Yeah, he’s fucking weird. But I love him!

“He’s eccentric, you know? He’s got a bit of flair in his game, he’s very opposite to me in that sense.

“On the pitch, off the pitch. I’m probably (too normal) but maybe because I’m so normal it makes me feel weird!”

Turner took over from Shuttlesworth as the New England Revolution’s No.1 in 2016 before Arsenal signed him in 2022.

Although he mainly played the role of Ramsdale’s understudy, failing to start a single Premier League match for Arsenal, he learned a lot from the Englishman.

A year after signing for the Gunners, it was time to move on for Turner as he sought first-team football.

The 29-year-old joined Forest and has played every game under Steve Cooper this season.

Ramsdale, meanwhile, is now fighting for his future at the Emirates Stadium after David Raya moved on loan from Brentford in the summer, sparking a debate over the identity of Mikel Arteta’s No.1 at Arsenal.
